01 Our standard #
Scrimfield has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sexualised contact with a minor, sextortion, and any attempt to use the app to meet a child for sexual purposes or to arrange harm. This is banned. We remove it, close the account, and report it to the authorities.
Scrimfield is an app for meeting people in person to play sport, and some of those people are teenagers, so we treat this as a core part of how the product is built, not an afterthought.
02 Who can use Scrimfield #
You must be at least 13. Players aged 13–17 need a parent or guardian to give consent during signup, and we keep a record that they did. We're upfront about the limit of this: it's a consent record, not identity verification, because there is no reliable way to confirm online that a parent filled it in themselves. Date of birth is required at signup and is never shown to other users.
03 Built-in protections for under-18s #
- Age groups on every match and guild. Each match and each guild is set to an age group (13–15, 16–18, 18+ or 30+). The server checks a player's date of birth against it before they can join a match or be accepted into a guild, so an adult can't get into a group set for younger players by editing the app.
- Guild battles are age-matched. Every player in a battle lineup has to fit the age range the battle was posted for, on both sides.
- No Players Near You for under-18s. Minors can't use it and never appear in anyone else's results.
- No exact location shown, ever. Other users never see anyone's exact home coordinates. Live location is off by default, opt-in each time, shared only with other players in the same match, and only for a short window around it.
- Direct messages are friends-only. You can't message someone you haven't added as a friend.
- What others can't see: date of birth, email, phone or other contact details.
- No analytics or aggregate statistics for minors. Analytics is never collected for anyone under 18, and nothing from a minor goes into aggregated numbers.
These reduce risk; they don't remove it. We'd also encourage anyone, and parents of younger players especially, to meet in public places, tell someone where they're going, and talk about meeting people they've met online, even through a sports app.
04 Report and block, inside the app #
You can report or block any player, from their profile or from the player sheet opened from a match roster, the People list or a friends list. Reports can be about:
- a person (harassment, inappropriate behaviour, a fake profile, someone lying about their age, spam or a scam);
- a profile photo;
- a chat conversation;
- a venue, a venue comment, a review or a match.
Blocking is immediate. Hosts can also remove a player from their own match.
05 What we do with a report #
- Reports go into a private moderation queue that other users can't see, and a person reviews them.
- Anything involving a child's safety is the highest priority. We aim to look at these within 72 hours.
- We remove the content, and suspend or permanently close the account of anyone who breaks these rules.
- We keep the evidence needed for an investigation, and report confirmed CSAE and CSAM to the relevant authorities as the law requires, such as the NCMEC CyberTipline and the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau.
- We cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement.
06 Reporting outside the app #
If you can't use the in-app report, or you're a parent, teacher or anyone else with a concern, email hello@scrimfield.com with the subject Child safety. Include the username and what happened, with screenshots if you have them. Please don't forward any sexual images of a child. Describe them instead and we'll tell you what to do.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. You can also report child sexual abuse material directly to a hotline, for example the NCMEC CyberTipline or an INHOPE hotline in your country.
